Caffeine and Machine: The Hill

Caffeine and Machine: The Hill

Caffeine and Machine is where cars, coffee, and community collide in the countryside.

The Hill is a cafรฉ-bar-yard-shop mashup, and one of three sites around the country dedicated entirely to automobiles.

The Hill is the first permanent home of these three sites, and is located on the northern edge of the Cotswolds, just a few miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon (the other two are The Hut in Hampshire and The Bowl in Bedfordshire).

We’ve only been to The Hill, and it was a magical automotive experience.

We aren’t petrolheads by any means (although we frequent the Southside Hustle in Wimbledon and Waterloo Classics in Waterloo), but we do appreciate a good-looking car.

The beauty of these car meets is that they offer a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some rare and special vehicles, but they only happen once a month.

Events happen every week at C&M, so there’s always plenty to see.

What’s There?

Because C&M is a bit of a mashup, you’ll find it’s fairly flexible in what it offers.

You don’t need to be a petrolhead with a flashy car to show to visit; you can pop in for some food, a beer, or even just a coffee (we only went for coffee) in your crappy campervan (we went in our crappy campervan).

Thankfully, no vehicle is off the cards.

The food is typical of what you’d expect to find in a place like this, from a full English breakfast to burgers and pizza and even some leafy green salads, with the odd dish named after something car-related, like the “Air Cooled Appreciation Society’ burger.

Snazzy.

Beyond the food and drink, there’s a shop, selling all sorts of C&M merchandise, from a limited edition ยฃ200 baseball bat, down to some colourful and creative bumper stickers for just a few quid.

There are also plenty of clothing options, too, like t-shirts and hoodies.

Beyond the bars and restaurant is the car park, where the magic of Caffeine and Machine is.

There are different events throughout the week.

These events are the real engine behind C&M, and without them, it would be just another roadside restaurant.

What you might see will depend on which event is on, so check out the events page to see what’s on.

During our visit, we noticed the car park was a forever-changing landscape of machines.

New cars were rolling in and out all the time, which kept things fresh with new cars to look at.

This also led to a bit of FOMO and not wanting to miss any of the beauties on show, but at some point, you have to leave.

Retro Rides was the gathering we went to, so check out the gallery below to get a feel for what kind of cars were there.

Besides the retro vehicles, there were plenty of modern vehicles, like the fleet of Ferraris.

Can I Just Turn Up?

Yes, you can just turn up.

However, it gets busy when the events are on, so it’s always worth booking to guarantee your spot.

The tickets cost ยฃ10 per vehicle, plus a small booking fee, and are only bookable for when an event is on.

If you turn up when there’s no particular event on, you don’t need to book, but there might also be a lack of cars to look at.

Thankfully, you can offset the cost of the ticket against anything you buy, whether it’s food, drink or merch, so the ticket is costing you nothing other than the booking fee, which is totally worth it.

To book, visit what’s on at The Hill.
